How to Accessorize for the Year of the Water Snake 2013
Feb-05-2013

This Sunday, February 10, marks the start of the Chinese New Year – Year of the Water Snake, symbolizing a year of peace, prosperity, and luck.  For those that celebrate this holiday or believe in Feng Shui, you’ll be busy preparing your home, clothes, dishes, gift-giving, and more to align with the energy that this year will bring and increase those symbols in your life..  One way to usher in this year is through clothes and jewelry.  When choosing your attire, remember to select items that harmonize with the feng shui elements of snakes and water.  Here’s a list of things to consider when choosing what to wear during the year of the snake 2013:

Colors – Black and Blue

Think about what colors reflect water best, black and blue.  Choose any shade of blue and/or black to wear when selecting your jewelry, shirt, scarf, etc.  You can blue or black colored gemstones, such as blue sapphire, topaz, black diamonds, onyx, and more.  Black tungsten rings or bracelets and blue-colored jewelry are excellent choices to wear this year.  Besides the color, consider gemstones that have water energy, such as pearls, aquamarine, and turquoise.  Avoid colors that reflect the elements opposite of water, which are earth and fire.  Browns, reds, oranges, and bold yellows conflict with this year’s energy.  For Chinese New Year, wear shades of black and blue and gemstones with water elements.

Snake-Like Motif

Since this is the year of the snake, wear clothes and jewelry that have snake-like designs, such as scale bracelets, talisman, and snake patterns.  However, avoid items made with snake and snake-skin.  Think of snake-esque accessories if you’re looking to buy gifts or new jewelry and clothes.

Gold & Silver Jewelry

Elements of metal sustain water according to Feng Shui’s productive cycle, and snakes love silver and gold jewelry, so feel free to wear these items or metallic colors.  Being that most jewelry is made with some type of metal, this part should be easy.  You may even want to pile on the jewelry to make water’s energy more conducive this year.   As we mentioned in a past blog post, you can mix and match gold and silver jewelry together as well as other metals.  Also, white and greys are great colors to wear this year as they are reminiscent of metals.  This year, bring out your gold, sterling silver, and other metallic jewelry.

For this Year of the Water Snake, choose clothes and accessories that reflect the water and snake elements.  Choose shades of blues, blacks, whites, and greys or combinations of these colors that are similar to water and metal.  Find jewelry or clothes that have snake-like designs and patterns except items made with snake.  Also, snakes love gold and silver and metal aids water energy, so accessorize yourself with these metals.  Remember colors, designs, and jewelry that reflect the Water Snake’s elements and fave fun in celebrating this Chinese New Year 2013!
