Irish
wedding ring traditions: An Irish bridal wedding ring is called a Claddagh ring.
It is a heart held by two hands with a crown. The hands represent faith, the crown symbolizes
honor, and the heart signifies love. If the hands are worn pointing outwards the woman is
single, but if the hands are pointed towards the woman, she is wed.
Italian
wedding ring traditions: As far back as the 1400s, diamond engagement rings have
been popular among Italian brides. Italian tradition beliefs include diamonds as created by
the flames of love. In medieval Italy, grooms "purchased" brides with precious stones given
to the woman's family.
Scottish wedding ring traditions: Scottish wedding bands date back to the 1500s and
typically gold with ribbon designs.
