bride to be. Whether you love antiques

When purchasing antique
wedding rings, be sure you keep in mind of the following shopping tips:
The lowest price is not always the best quality. Gemstones vary in terms of color,
inclusions, carat, and whether or not it has been treated. Be sure you are clear on gemstone
criteria.
- Have the item appraised by a nonbiased jeweler that does not buy or sell
wedding rings and wedding jewelry.
Look for antique designs from the following periods:
- Victorian: 1800s.
- Edwardian: 1900s-1920s. This more traditional jewelry generally made from pearls,
diamonds, platinum, and
gold skillfully crafted into lacy and delicate shapes was called
"Edwardian," named after Edward VII who succeeded Queen Victoria on her death in 1901.
Edwardian jewelry often has similar color combinations in neutral tones, in
contrast to the avant garde Art Neveau styles.
- Art Deco: 1920s-1930s or 1940s-1950s (Art Retro). The term Art Deco originates from the 1925 Paris Exposition des Arts Decoratifs et
Industriels Modernes Influenced by cubism in the early 20s, art deco
wedding bands and rings less fanciful curves and
spirals than Art Noveau. Geometric shapes and contrasting colors were popular using coral, onyx,
lapis, turquois, jade, and diamonds creating wonderful bursts of color.
