Moissanites and moissanite jewelry are wonderful alternatives to both diamonds and cubic zirconia because of it's

Diamonds have been very popular over the years, and consequently, very
expensive. Because diamonds account for such a huge profit, people have
been motivated to create imitations. Cut glass, rhinestones, and cubic
zirconium have all been used to try to imitate the real thing, but most lack
the luster and brilliance of a diamond. Moissanites are known to be even more brilliant
and shine brighter than real diamond jewelry. Rather than called a "fake diamond", moissanites are
considered more or less its own unique gem.
In 1893, Nobel Prize-winning French scientist Dr. Henri Moissan discovered
minute quantities of a new mineral, natural silicon carbide. This mineral
was found in an ancient meteorite in Arizona. However, this mineral was
in limited quantity and could not sustain jewelry use. It wasn't until
1995 when Cree created large quantities of moissanite in the lab that
resembled silicon carbide.
